It also contains uncredited guest appearances from Sampha and Jazmine Sullivan.Įndless received generally positive reception, with critics praising the musical content, namely its abstract structural compositions, although some were divided over the visual aspects, noting its length. Thematically, Endless explores Ocean's status as a celebrity, love and heartbreak, and age. Music journalists have noted the album features a minimalist aesthetic with a loose musical structure and contains similar elements featured on Blonde, including ambient pop, avant-soul, R&B, and trap. The film follows Ocean silently woodworking on a staircase while the audio plays. Endless was recorded in various studios across California, as well as in London, Miami, and Berlin, with production handled primarily by Ocean, Vegyn, Michael Uzowuru, and Troy Noka Ocean previously collaborated with Noka on his debut mixtape, Nostalgia, Ultra (2011). The album followed a period of controversy for Ocean, who was in a highly publicized battle with Def Jam Recordings, and it was the subject of widespread media discussion upon release. Endless was later remastered and had a limited reissue in physical audio and visual formats on April 10, 2018. It was released on August 19, 2016, as an exclusive streaming-only video on Apple Music, and preceded the August 20 release of Ocean's second studio album Blonde. Though, I'll admit, finding an image for nostalgia ultra was pretty tough.Endless is a visual album by American singer Frank Ocean. The blonde albums don't really have any additional special detail to them, as it was just title change + picture change. This was a pain in the ass to do, but it looks nicer in the end this way. The bottom image of the Endless covers have the headphone stands changed based on the number of the album. By that logic, since the Endless vinyl is white, then it makes sense that the actual cover should be black. In addition the blonde vinyl is also black, which makes it seem like the vinyl version is the inverted version of the actual cover. Personally, I think the "true" Endless cover is the one I put as this was what was used for the songs in blonded radio. You might be wondering why the Endless covers are not based on the vinyl cover, but rather the inverted version.

The color of blond Channel Orange cover was the first result on google, when I searched "blond hex color" nU's is leaves, Endless's is the holograph sticker on the vinyl cover, and blonde is blonde hair. With that in mind, I tried to add a texture to the first word to match the album's motif. I'm unsure of what's in the "channel" part, but I thought it to be either water or some jewelry texture. The Channel Orange covers have a little special texture in the first part of the text. It was kind of tough to find non generic car shoot type photos that I found fit the "frank ocean style" but this being from BDC made it easy for me. I found this car in the BDC magazine, and immediately liked it more than the white Ferrari one I made. The car of the Endless cover in the style of nostalgia ultra is a Porsche based on "I want the porsche bugatti designed"īlond in the nostalgia ultra style was originally a white Ferrari, but I wasn't a fan of how it turned out. The car image I used had a blue car, but I felt like the car had to be orange for obvious reasons, so I had to recolor that and boosted the blue of the ocean/sky more. This always annoyed me, but I wanted to stick to its design choice.Ĭhannel Orange in the nostalgia ultra style is probably my favorite, and also took the longest time. The nostalgia ultra covers are not squares, as the album cover of the official version on the OF website isn't a square.

Since this post blew up, here's some additional design notes I wanna share:
